The Accident

If you're on here, you already know that my dad had an accident, but I want to explain what happened.
On Monday, June 29th at about 10:15 dad climbed up on a ladder to get on the roof of their house. He slipped (not the most graceful man) and he fell to the driveway about 12 feet below. He landed on his knees. Luckily, Dennis who is his next door neighbor and works with my dad was there with his workers. They immediately called 911 and then went next door to get my grandad (a physician).
When the ambulance arrived they asked where to take dad. It was decided that he needed to go to Baptist Health South in Montgomery, AL. The EMT's took him directly to a local park where a helicopter could land.
He arrived at the hospital at about 12 pm. My mom and grandparents drove. He was still conscious and having immense trouble dealing with the pain so they put him in a medically induced coma.
We found out later that the trauma team usually consults within an hour of the incident, but this time they were tripping over each other to do the consult for my dad. They were done in 15 minutes!
At this point he had:
2 shattered kneecaps
both femurs were broken from the bottom to the middle of the bone and
both femurs were broken at the neck (almost where they connect to the hip)
Multiple facial fractures (jaw bone and palette to name 2)
His nose was completely broken
They took him back for surgery at 7:15 pm and finished at 11:30 pm. He stayed stable during the whole surgery so they were able to put rods, pins and bolts in both femurs. Unfortunately the kneecaps were beyond repair and they had to remove them completely.
Since then, he has continued to remain stable, but not able to be taken off sedation or off the ventilator. On Thursday they attempted to wake him, but the pain was too great and they had to put him back under.
It is now Saturday and we are still praying continuously for his recovery. We see him 4 times a day for 30 minutes each visit. Tomorrow they will try to wake him again. I'll keep you posted!
God has been great to us! We know that we will get to hear dad talk and laugh and smile and make stupid jokes again soon. We miss him tremendously right now.

*I've added a link to 'Steve Seeger Recovery Updates' for my daily entry about my dad's status, please feel free to comment or question on that one as well*
**I have also added a link to my mom's blog 'Priscilla's Blog' as well if you would like to follow my mom's journey through this time and connect with her**

Why I'm Blogging

Thank you for visiting this blog I have started. I began it for 3 reasons. The first is so that I can answer any questions and keep everyone updated on my dad's condition. I would also love to have you write on here so that I can show my dad the amount of support and love that my family has had shown to us throughout this experience. Our God is amazing and has blessed us in so many ways I can't even begin to explain. I'm sure my mom will be on here blogging about the many blessings as soon as she can figure out how too! The last reason and the most difficult one is to ask for your help. Unfortunately, my parents have lost their only way to earn money for a while. I wish that my immediate family and myself had enough money to take care of my mom and dad, but we don't. That is why I'm humbly asking for any sort of donation if you can. This will only go to my mom to help pay the bills until my dad is well enough to work again. If you can't donate money, please donate your thoughts so my dad has all your well wishes and jokes to read! Thank you all for the love and support and unceasing prayer!! Our family truely loves and appreciates everyone who has been here for us!

If you want to donate, click on the orange "Donate" button to the left. It's set up through PayPal and is very easy to use. Any money donated is given directly to my mom. If you want to mail money, you can find my parents' address on the left of this page as well. Please email or blog me any questions or problems you have.
